Brownsburg East Middle School

This project was installed utilizing the Lake Edge Enhancement System (please visit www.spencenursery.com for more information).  This system is an alternative to rip-rap or mowing to the waters edge.  It involves the establishment of native plant communities on the slopes, as well as in shallow water of constructed ponds or retention basins.  In this installation, the mesic prairie extends to the top of the slopes and swales.  Seed installation was performed in fall 2003 and the plants were installed in the spring of 2004.  The installation has provided reduced maintenance and educational opportunities at the school as well as improved water quality.
